In case you missed it, the HSE launched a new strategy to transform the way UK companies view health & safety.
Launched in June, 'Be Part of the Solution', is a pledge to which companies sign up and there are hundreds who have done so.
The strategy recognises that workplace deaths may have fallen over the past 30 years, but thousands still die of work-related accidents and ill-health and that by being proactive in health & safety and observing a moral and legal duty, it will be good for business.
At the launch, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, James Purnell said:
"There are too many clichés about the role of 'health and safety' in our society. But amidst ridiculous myths about banning donkey rides and flip flops, the fact is that too many people are still needlessly killed or injured. The fact that some people go out to work and never return home to their families is a human tragedy. The new HSE strategy recognises that a significant challenge now faces everyone with a stake in health and safety. We need to do everything we can to drive down the toll of death and injury."
Research published in June, shows that business leaders are recognising that safe workplaces make sound commercial sense and 65 per cent of employees say that good health & safety practices make them feel valued.
